Toledo, Spain

Last week we went to Toledo, Spain.  That's Toe-lay-do.  Check out Wikipedia if you'd like to know more about this city.  It's quite an interesting and diverse city with influences from the Moors (Muslims), Christians and Jews.  It is thought that the expression "Holy Toledo" came as Toledo was one a great center for Christian culture.

Jerry's parents came for Christmas and along with them, we were eager to see more of Spain.
Wow, we had no idea how gorgeous this city was until we started researching our trip and then saw this!

And this!

It was recommended in our Rick Steve's book to take a drive around the city, which we did first.  Then we found our way to the free parking near escalators that took us up into the city.  I was sure glad for those escalators and the free parking for that matter!

The kids weren't doing so well, especially Reegan.  There was lots of moaning, groaning and whining on this trip.  I'll talk more about that later and the end result.

We walked our way in the city and started looking for a place to eat. First stopping at a store with some beautiful scarves and jewelry!  I've got to find that store on my next trip!  I did pick up a cute scarf!
For some reason, this area of Spain (Madrid included) is so expensive to eat out.  The coast is not so bad, but to eat in a sit down restaurant is going to cost you €7 (over $9) and usually more like €9-11 ($11-15).  We found a little hole in the wall that looked like they had a decent menu with things the kids would be interested in eating.  I think we will find another cafe next time as it was basically warmed up frozen pizzas and such and expensive!  Oh well, live and learn.

These are some beautiful streets!

I thought this was kind of funny.  An ATM behind bars!

A family photo op!

The Spanish flag.

There was a little playground on the way back to the car.  We had a bit of a drive ahead and knew they needed a chance to play after dragging them through the city.

Reegan was not up for playing at all.  After making a stop to fill up the car we learned why.  Poor thing threw up all over herself.  This was her first bought with the flu and it lasted her about 4 days!  Karis is in the midst of it now.  Boy, has our family sure been hit by these Spanish germs!  Ha!

Unfortunately we've not made any more road trips since then.  We hope to get one more in, but I guess you could say we are having some good family time together at home!

May each of you have a blessed new year!
