Vienna has so much more to offer than you see here!!  From palaces to cathedrals, music to horse shows!  We didn't get to all of it before we moved away.

Be sure to check out Momondo if you're looking to book a trip.  I really like how they have their page laid out giving price estimates for the year along with snippets of information about your destination.

Have you been to Vienna?  What was your favorite?

It's Not Vienna's Fault

Downtown Vienna
Ever have a mishap while traveling or living abroad? Maybe you lost your passport, your luggage was stolen, your reservation wasn't made, your visa was messed up or denied or it just seemed like nothing was working out as planned. Did it taint your thoughts of the place you were in?

That was Vienna for us. Really, it's not Vienna's fault. It just wasn't the best season of our expat journey. Now, I'm a believer in the Bible and I know that God has a reason for everything and he's not going to give us anything we can't handle. This was just one of those rough seasons in our lives. We had moved from Spain, and let me tell you, me and the kids cried when we had to leave.  We all had fallen head over heels in love with Spain and our lives there.  For work purposes we needed to move to Vienna.  Mentally, we probably weren't starting off in the right frame of mind. We were missing our new home tremendously.

I did my best to create a wonderful life for us in Vienna.  We found a sweet little quirky house with a garden and tried my hardest to make this house our home.  The kids were attending a great Christian school, ICSV, the kids and I loved their teachers, I was helping at the school, we were part of a new international church start, and I had some great girlfriends (one I made through this very blog before getting there).  So much good stuff was going on, but it just seemed that visa issues and work junk were overshadowing the good.

If I'm being really honest here, my heart just wasn't in it and I was miserable at times.  Do I have any regrets about our time there?  Hmmmm.....yes and no.  In many ways I think we made the most of it. We had all those great things I mentioned earlier that helped make the time better.  We grew in many ways and made some friends that we will be connected to for a long time to come.  I just regret not getting out to explore the city and country more than we did.

Sometimes an experience abroad just doesn't go as planned.  Has this happened to you?  Did you make the most of it or was it hard to move past the circumstances?

A Time With Friends at Schonbrunn

I've spoken of Schonbrunn several times on my blog and it is most definitely my favorite spot in Vienna!  If it just weren't so far away from our house, I'd be there more often!

Kristi & Mollie wanted to get family pictures taken before they left Vienna so we jumped at the chance to join them!

We started out by taking a train up to the Glorieta.

Buddies, Reegan & Ian, on the train!!

Karis & Thad, classmates, church friends and all around good buddies!  Aren't they sweet?!

Group shot!

I'm going to miss these guys as Mollie and her family move back to Mississippi, Kristi to Tennessee and us to England.  I'm so thankful for the precious times we had together!!

I'm not a big fan of ME being involved in jumping pictures, but these weren't too bad.  The kids loved it!

These next ones are my favorites though.
These crack me up!!  Brennan is not too fond of holding his sister's hand!!  Ha!

Sweet family!

Precious family!

I love this shot that Kristi captured!

Got all the kids in the jumping action!

"I thank my God every time I remember you." Philippians 1:3
This verse comes to mind when I think of these two!
What a blessing they have been to me this past year!

Kristi brought me to tears when she posted the above picture on facebook with this quote from C.S. Lewis:

“In friendship…we think we have chosen our peers. In reality a few years’ difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another…the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting–any of these chances might have kept us apart. But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking no chances. A secret master of ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,” can truly say to every group of Christian friends, “Ye have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another.” The friendship is not a reward for our discriminating and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which God reveals to each of us the beauties of others.”  ~C.S. Lewis

One last photo op at the u-bahn station.

It's been quite a year.  It's not all been easy, but the Lord gave us some wonderful blessings through it all!

We're down to 5 weeks until we hit American soil!!  We can't wait!!

School Rewards

It's hard to believe the school year has come to an end.

The last week of school (which was only 3 days) was all half days.  The first day was field day and the second day was awards.  Brennan got mixed up and called it "rewards" and it stuck.  Then I started calling it that when talking to people about it.  Ha!  It's actually somewhat appropriate seeing as an award is a reward for their hard work.

Karis getting her "rewards"

She is so proud!

Brennan receiving his "rewards"

Checking them out with his classmate.

Reegan too!

This group had good scores all year!  Brennan is second from left.

On the last day of school, my friend Mollie and I volunteered to take the first grade class as a gift, of sorts, for the teacher.  We watched the movie "Dolphin Tale," brought goodies to eat and did a special craft for their teacher.

Karis and her friend being silly!

Watching the movie.  The actual watching of the movie didn't last for long before there was talking and then complete uninterest in watching the movie!  Oh well, it was a good idea!

Presenting the gift to their teacher.  We had to wait for the hands to dry to finish it, but the hands of each student are leaves on a tree.

Their teacher wasn't able to give out as many awards as she would have like during the awards ceremony, so she gave them out at the end of class.

We had such a great school year, great friends, and great teachers!!  What a blessing ICSV has been for us!!  In all honesty, we won't miss Vienna much, but we will sure miss our school and friends!!

We're taking a little road trip this week, so stay tuned for pictures from our trip!

Last T-Ball Game

T-Ball has come to an end.  It was fun, but I am glad to have our Saturday mornings back!!

Reegan has been a good spectator this season!
And sporting one of the many headbands Kristi gave to my girls!

Medals!

The Royals and the Reds with their coaches.

Our baseball field is located in this beautiful green forest area.  We decided to go exploring after the game.

And stumbled upon this park.

I LOVE this setting behind Brennan!  Isn't it gorgeous?!

They loved this thing.  Until Reegan bopped her head on the pole in the middle.  Oops!

This past week we wrapped up the school year.  More on that in my next post!
