London Bloggers Tea

This past Saturday I made my way into London to join up with 20-something bloggers to enjoy an afternoon tea at the Milestone Hotel.

It was nice to see some familiar faces, like Sunny in London.

I've been following Dannielle at ChicaDeeDee for awhile now, this was the first time we got to meet.

I got to chat with a few others, but I didn't take many pictures.

I did manage to get a few of the food.

I love scones, clotted cream and jam!

Now for the hard part.  Oh how I hate to give a bad review, but I have to be honest, it was not my favorite.

The London Tube had some station closures delaying people's arrival, but we were served almost an hour after our start time.

The bland sandwiches were no longer chilled, the scones were hard and crumbly and the desserts were just ok.

Typically their afternoon tea has an array of teas to choose from.  I guess when you book a private party room, you don't get the choices.  We only had the option of English Breakfast or Earl Grey.  Fine by me, but others mentioned they would have liked to try some of the other flavors.

The company was great, but the tea was a bit disappointing.  Here's to next time! Have a great weekend!!

A Day in West Sussex

February 14, 2014 0
Gina, Selena and Sarah recently came down from London to spend a day in the countryside of West Sussex.  Sarah and Selena captured some beautiful pictures, so be sure to give them a visit.

I had visions of a beautiful day, tromping through fields, driving through quaint country roads and sipping on afternoon tea.

I just didn't envision this much rain!  Oh, the rain!!  You'd think I'd be prepared, being England and all, but it has been the most rain England has had in about 250 years!  We determined not to let it get us down and had a good time even if we did get drenched!

We started our day at the Ouse Valley Viaduct.

viaduct

Built in 1841, this viaduct was constructed with 11 million bricks on the London-Brighton railway line.  Over 100 trains pass over every day.

It's an amazing structure.  What drew me to this place was the beautiful arches underneath.

I think the kids would enjoy climbing through the archways.  Maybe when it's warmer!

Next up, Nymans Gardens.

I had visited Nymans previously and the weather was much better on that day, so I'm sharing photos mostly from my first visit.

I can't wait to see the wisteria (below) full of blooms!

Such beautiful grounds!  I can't wait to visit in the Spring!

We finished up our day in the quaint town of Steyning, sipping tea at The Cobblestone Tea House.

We finally got a break from the rain and took a short walk through town!

Something so fascinating about a thatched roof cottage!

The day went by way too fast, but we had such a great time!

Come to West Sussex and I'll show you around!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Confessions of a Blogger

November 14, 2013 0
I've been tagged by the lovely, Bonnie at A Compass Rose and Gina at Sweet Serenity to share my confessions of blogging.

The questions and my answers are as follows.
1. When did you first start blogging and why?
My husband actually started us on blogging after our twins were born in 2006.  Being far away from family, it was an easy way to let everyone know how we were doing after my emergency c-section and keep everyone updated on us.  It wasn't consistent at first and I was using a blogging program through Apple that has now disappeared.  It wasn't until about 2007 that I got more into it.
2. Have you had any past online presence?
My online presence began in 2005 when I joined Hannah's Prayer, an online Christian ministry for women who struggle with infertility and loss.  It is what began my openness to online friendships and have met many dear women through this incredible ministry.  From there I start blogging, then joined MySpace. Then jumped over to Facebook, included Instagram and Twitter and Pinterest.  You just can't stop me in the social media arena!
3.  When did you become serious about your blog?
I've always had a desire to keep my blog going even if I haven't written consistently.  It was about 4 years ago when I started joining link ups in an effort to meet bloggers and make my blog more public.
4. What was your first blog post?
It's long gone now as Apple did away with their blogging program, but that first post was to announce that our twins had been born.  The first post on blogger was our visit from Flat Stanley.
5. What have been your biggest challenges blogging?
Once I decided to put my blog out there on a more public platform I found it difficult to find a niche.  I was trying to get in with other mom bloggers and I have kept in contact with a few, but I didn't feel I had a niche in that group.  It's only been since moving to England that I've found a great group of travel/expat bloggers to share in the journey.
6.  What is the most rewarding thing about blogging?
Having a record of our growing family and life overseas is something I will cherish.  Along with that are the friendships made through blogging.  I'm not a great writer or a great photographer. For me it's about our experiences and sharing them with others as well as connecting with people in this great wide space.  It's so rewarding to get a comment or email that our journey through infertility, adoption or even as an expat has helped someone in their own journey.
7.  What is the most discouraging thing about blogging?
When I put myself out there to people and I get no response.  That might be when I've written on a particular subject on my blog or when I comment on someone's blog about a similar experience or journey.  I eventually get over it, but it can be disheartening to reach out to someone with no reciprocation or response.
8.  What is your lasting inspiration or motivation?
My motivation is that we'll have years of blog posts to look back on to remember this time in our family's life.  With that is connecting with bloggers in similar stages of life or similar expat journeys.  I'm inspired to improve my photography of shooting in manual, although I don't seem inspired enough to put the hours in to make that happen.  We'll see if that changes! ;)
9.  What is your blogging dirty little secret?
I'm an over editor, as in I read my stuff over and over and OVER before hitting publish.  Bad little habit I have.
10.  What is your current goal as a blogger? (Bonnie's question)
I just want to keep doing what I'm doing and sharing our lives as we live it out wherever we may be.
And maybe to work on my over editing habit!

I'm suppose to tag some people, so tag, you're it!!

London Blogger Afternoon Tea

November 12, 2013 1
Sitting among 19 other bloggers, chatting away was a Saturday afternoon well spent!

There was food involved too.  Can't have a proper girly get together without food!

Before I went I kept thinking how I wanted to chat with different ones about a certain topic or their transition to London.  I think I got a bit star struck and all those questions went out the window!
I did have some great conversation, met some new people I'd not "met" online before and generally had a wonderful time.

Guest Posting Today

Hi ya friends!!

One of the things I love about blogging is the connections I've made with bloggers.  One of those very blogger friends became a true, in real life friend, when we moved to Austria.  It made my time in Vienna that much more enjoyable.  She took me around to her favorite spots and we even enjoyed a fun girl's getaway to Italy!

I was really excited when my new blogging friend, Alison, contacted me about doing an expat guest post for her.  Her and her husband, along with their 4 beautiful kiddos, have recently moved from Arkansas to Aberdeen, Scotland.

She first found my blog in a link up and ever since then I've been stalking following her blog, instagram and twitter feeds.  I've probably become a little overly obsessed, but if you spend any time on her blog you will see why.  Her photos are gorgeous!! I just love connecting with others who are doing this whole expat thing with kids in tow.  We're hoping our paths will cross, in real life, soon!

So, I'd love it if you not only read my guest post, but give a shout out to Alison on her blog.  I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Meet Up with Sarah: The Wanderblogger

Sarah and I only "met" through blogging a few short months ago, but we instantly began emailing back and forth and quickly talked about meeting up.
A couple of weeks ago we were able to make it happen.  I hopped on the train to London, my first solo attempt.  I was a bit late after trying to figure out parking at the train station and a delayed train.  Luckily it didn't cut too much into our time.
We chatted away and had a nice stroll along the Thames through Southbank.
We stopped to look at The Undercroft graffiti.  Impressive!

I have a thing for merry go rounds!

We thought about taking it for a spin, but 2 grown women on the merry go round with no one else riding seemed a little weird.  Ha!

And who doesn't like gazing at the London Eye with the sound of bagpipes in the air?!

Big Ben, you are just so majestic!

We finished off with a long chat over lunch at Tortillas, a Tex-Mex restaurant!  It was so good!
Sarah, I had a blast!  Can't wait to do it again!!   And help me wish Sarah a big "Happy Birthday" today!!  Hope you're day is special, Sarah!!
I was recently featured on InterNations, a global expat community website.  If you're interested in meeting up with expats in your area, you should check out their website.
