About

Hey, I'm Tina!

An Alaskan born girl with a love of travel from an early age.  My dad loved to halibut fish, so packing up the motorhome and fishing in Homer every summer was our thing.

I loved to ride up in the bunk above the cab (hey, it was the 80s!), watching the beauty of Alaska go by.  Many trips to Texas, New Mexico, a fun Spring Break trip to Hawaii and road trips across the west coast as a kid brought on dreams of travel to far away places.

At 18, the itch to leave Alaska was strong! After heading to Texas for college, I met my husband and we lived as missionaries for almost 17 years in 5 different countries across Europe.  You can read more about that on my A Global Life page.  I never really thought my dream of riding a gondola in Venice would ever come true, but it did.  Answering "Where are you from?" is complicated and yet, if you ask, I could talk about it all day!!  Growing up in Alaska and the opportunity to live and travel across Europe has been an amazing gift and dream come true!

We went from a family of 2 to a family of 5 in 8 months after 11 years of marriage & infertility.  Adoption, fertility treatment & a twin pregnancy all while living overseas.  Now we're knee deep in the teen years!!

In the Fall of 2015 we moved back to Texas.  Trying to adjust to American life Texas life, my mom's struggle with Alzheimer's, losing my mom, now losing my dad this year (2020), figuring out repatriation and life after loss has been a continual up and down journey, but here we are.  Just taking it one day at a time.

Thanks for stopping by Girl Meets Globe!

  5. Wow, you have a truly fascinating story Tina! So glad I found your blog through Bonnie Rose. An Alaskan in Europe?! What a stretch? I'm from the Midwest and ended up as an expat for a few years in England. Amazing memories to last a lifetime.

Did you ever make it to Australia? I just wrote about our trip on the blog last week, check it out.. Maybe it'll give you some ideas.

    See you around!

  6. Hi Tina, what a great blog you have. As a Dutch person living and working in Hong Kong (part time at Urban Discovery), I know exactly what kind of guidance expats may need! If you ever find yourself in the neighbourhood, make sure to drop me an email so I can give you some insider knowledge about exploring Hong Kong's local areas, food and culture! (Don't mean to advertise here, really! We're a non-profit social enterprise aimed at keeping heritage alive...)
