I got to thinking about my kiddos' short lives and all they've experienced. Then I realized that my kids have not been in one place longer than 18 months!! Wow!
Well, except for Karis during the time before Brennan & Reegan came along.
This is what the past 5 years have looked like.
June 2006 to December 2007 - Prague, Czech Republic (during this time we lived in 2 different apartments)
December 2007 to April 2009 - Fort Worth, Texas
April 2009 to June 2010 - back in Prague
June 2010 to (roughly) July 2011 - Madrid, Spain
July 2011 to .......... - Vienna, Austria
We thought when we moved to Spain that it would be our forever (somewhat, anyway) home. Little did we realize that another move was in the foreseeable future. God has other plans.
What kind of affect is this going to have on our kids?
Good question. I have no idea!
I'm not sure how much they are going to remember, although they do talk about things that happened in Texas and that was a long time ago (in kid years anyway). Most likely, they will remember.
Hopefully they will remember it as an adventure. The times they traveled from Prague to Texas back to Prague to Spain to Vienna. Experiencing all kinds of things and meeting all kinds of people in between!
My prayer for our family in this time.....
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Amen and Amen!
I moved so often as a child--I don't know that we were many places even as long as a year. I enjoyed it and rarely complained. In fact I only remember complaining once and that was when I was a young teen and another missionary boy had moved to our city just before we were told it was time for another move.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the greatest memory but I have plenty of memories. One thing we did was at Christmas time we would go backward over the years and discuss the different places we lived. It helped to preserve and solidify our memories.
Our kids have had much the same journey although all within the states and most of the time they are good with it although they miss their friends. I see it as an opportunity to teach them obedience to God no matter where or when he calls. I know they will do fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post and that verse. I often wonder how our kids will look back on their moving.
ReplyDeleteBirth to dec 2003 in Russia
Dec 2003 to march 2004 Atlanta
March 04 to Oct 04 Virginia
Oct 04 to Aug 05 germany
Aug 05 to march 07 Florida
March 07 to June 2011 Maryland
And now we are on to Missouri with a couple month pit stop on Florida.
I also pray our kids will look an their lives as an adventure and will cherish the friends we've made and the places we've been.
My girls will talk about things in detail that happened years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest is 10 & my middle one is 6. Both of them remember events/places from when they were about 2 years old. Most of my early memories are vague, but theirs are quite specific.
Praying for you as you move again.
