Girl's Trip to Italy

A few months ago Kristi approached Mollie and I about taking a girl's getaway.  Originally she wanted to go to Amsterdam, but due to me not having a visa for Austria yet, I was advised that it might not be a good idea to go to Amsterdam.

I see the sea!

Mollie was longing for the beach!  We hunted for options and settled on Malta.  I was really excited about adding a new country, but it was not meant to be.  In the midst of Kristi booking our flights the tickets wouldn't go through and when she tried again they had gone up considerable.  Phooey!  Back to the drawing board.

Bratislava, Slovakia is only an hour away from Vienna.  I began researching flight options out of their airport and ended up finding a great deal on a flight to Alghero, Italy on the island of Sardinia.  We knew of Sardinia, but had never heard of Alghero.  We were all up for an adventure, so we decided to go for it.  Kristi researched apartments and we planned a very inexpensive little getaway!

We made a beeline for the beach!!

Alghero in the distance
It was beautiful, fine, powdery white sand.  If it just weren't for all that brown seaweed (you can see it close to the water's edge).  Not sure if it was left over from winter or if they get unusually high amounts of seaweed.

 Old town
The cobblestone is beautiful, but it is hard on the feet!

Alghero boat harbor.  Beautiful!

A night on the town.

 Gorgeous walk along the seawall!

Alghero Cathedral

Us girlies at the beach!

Very unique candy store.  Kristi trying out some of the selections.

Our plan was to take a boat ride out to the Neptune Caves.  Wouldn't you know that the winds were too high and they cancelled the tour.  Boo!

We opted for a bus ride along the coast instead.  Not quite the same, as I LOVE getting out on the water, but it was nonetheless beautiful!

Being cheesy on the bus

This rock is the Isola (island) Piana on the Capo Caccia.  There are caves underneath this area and lots of coral comes from this area.  We all bought a corral bracelet to commemorate our time together!

It was SO much fun just getting away from it all for a few days.

There have been some stressful moments during our time in Vienna and I am so thankful to the Lord for these 2 buddies who have been incredible friends during that time and their kids have been great friends to mine as well!!

Hope you enjoyed our short trek around Alghero.  It was a lot of fun and a trip I will always remember!

Bloomin' Fun

We enjoyed the beautiful blooms this tree in our yard produced this Spring.  Lovely!!

Up close

The tree was a perfect party decor addition to Karis' Spy Party last month.

Sadly, we knew the blooms wouldn't last forever.  So, I thought to have some fun with the mess the fallen petals.

My kiddos had no problem obliging.

Look at that load of petals Reegan's got!

So fun!

Pez!

Did you know that Pez was invented in 1927 by an Austrian inventor, originally created as a cigarette replacement?  Pez comes from the German word pfefferminze as the candy was originally peppermint flavored.

Initial sales of the candy in the US were low when presented in 1952.  Eduard Haas decided to redo the packaging, create a dispenser that doubled as a toy with a cartoon head and created fruity flavors.

I considered collecting Pez dispensers, but decided against it.  We just don't need more clutter.  I have seen some creative ones.

 Easter Pez!

Excuse the blur!  I've got to get over worrying about people watching as I take pictures!  Ha!

 Gummy Pez
Have they made it to the US?

As you can see above, the dispensers aren't anything like the hard candy, but the gummy candies are good!

There you have a little tidbit about Austria!

T - Ball

Our new Saturday morning pass time, t-ball!!

I thought Brennan & Karis would really enjoy it!

Why not Reegan?  Let's just say I knew she wouldn't be interested.  I didn't want to spend the money to find out if she would like it or not.  So, I didn't enroll her.  But, she comes to the games and we watch (well, she plays with the kids) in the dugout.

Dad says "Point your toe and throw!" The cute thing about it is she does it in more of a ballerina kind of way.  Too cute!

Some serious baseball learning/teaching going on here!

Brennan either has his tongue out or a big smile on his face!  He is loving it!

Their coach giving them the basics of the game.

Dad giving daughter some tips of being first baseman.

Going up to bat!

Swing batter!

Their team is the Royals!

See, there is that smile I was talking about!
We're all having a great time!! We're especially loving the American treats we can buy from the concession stand!!  Yummy American beef burgers, hot dogs, Cheetos, Dr Pepper...... Now you know why we really joined t-ball!  Ha!

Easter Markets

If you ever find yourself in Austria around Easter, make sure you find the Easter markets!  Well worth the visit!

Painted eggs in all colors!

Lots of pretty things!

My friend, Kristi got us girls together for our last Austrian Easter Market visit.  All of us will be moving away this summer and we're trying to get lots of things in before we all move.

We took a little lunch break at Vapinos!  Yum!  Spaghetti bolognese, please!

Entrance to the second market!  So pretty!

This was my favorite vendor!

Can you believe, I didn't buy a painted egg?  I'm so afraid of them breaking in the move, so I bought some of these signs, below.

I bought one for Jerry and one for me!  Very Austrian graphics and print.  I love them!

Lots of goodies sold at the Easter markets too!  Chocolate dipped fruit!

You can always find brezels (that's not a misspell, that's the word in German) of many flavors.

And I was so excited to find this little treat that I know from Prague, a trdelnik!  A sweet bread, wrapped around a metal rolling pin and cooked over an open fire.  Then, it's dipped in cinnamon & sugar or almonds.  Yum!

Fun day with good friends!!
