On Saturday we celebrated Karis' Gotcha Day. It was nine years ago that we brought our 5 month old baby girl home from an orphanage in Aš, Czech Republic.
All of 9 years old!
Living in England, it's been harder to let go of summers. I do however, think that Starbucks has this right:
For our little town we have a good selection of events throughout the year. This past weekend was a French & Vintage market and Aston Martin road show. The cars were more exciting than the market and I love a good market!
This steam omnibus made an appearance.
A monthly trip to Costco. They had pumpkins!
Found canned pumpkin on sale!! Score! Much more pumpkin baking in my future!

ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is - I love fall, but I just really don't get into decorating for it or even having popular fall-ish drinks and foods. I have never had a pumpkin spice latte! We will, however, definitely be carving a pumpkin at Halloween. We have yet to miss a year doing that since Lexie was born!
I want to decorate but all I've managed is a pumpkin and two gourds for outside :( I'm gonna go nuts in November though! We WILL have fall decorations before Christmas.

ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Spain I used butternut squash. I usually found some already cut up. I'd then microwave it or steam it and use it like pumpkin. I honestly couldn't taste much different. If you are really desperate, there is an American store chain in Madrid. I rarely got stuff from there is it was more than I wanted to pay for some things. :)

ReplyDeleteOh yes! Taste of America! I always forget to check that place out because it's so expensive. I'll have to try out your butternut square trick! That just might fix my cravings. And surprisingly I found a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks in Madrid today - who knew!

ReplyDeleteNice!! Starbucks in Madrid never had PSL while I was there. I think the closest to a seasonal drink was a gingerbread latte. That was my biggest disappointment while living in Spain was Starbucks wasn't like most, carrying seasonal drinks. The thing is, I was ok with that. In all other areas I loved Spain, so I could deal with this disappointment! ;)
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! Pumpkin gratin sounds good! I honestly have not done any savory cooking with pumpkin. I've tried a pumpkin soup and really liked it, but never made anything myself. I really should branch out. Maybe my family would like it, maybe not. I'm the only pumpkin fan in my house.
ReplyDeleteIn most other places I've lived I was ok with the changing season, but summers here, to me, are just about perfect. Not too hot, not too cold = perfection!

ReplyDeleteI use to have Fall decor up September 1!! I'm not that quick to get it up anymore. We were several days into October this time. The kids love it.
And I've come to hate carving pumpkins! It's so messy and they mold within a day or two! My kids love that too though, so we might do it anyway, we'll see.
Probably won't feel like Fall 'til Christmas! ;)

ReplyDeleteYea for finding canned pumpkin in the UK. The last year we were there my local Waitrose started carrying it year round. And what a sweet baby Karis was...and spunky girl she is now. I just came across "charis" (Greek - joy, grace) in a Bible study and thought of you.

-I am so spoiled by the space in my kitchen now. The cabinets are only about half full, and I am determined not to re-accumulate "stuff" now that we are back in the consumer capital of the world. :)
