Benjamin Franklin House - London

London, Benjamin Franklin, travel, museum

I had to brush up on my Benjamin Franklin history before touring the Benjamin Franklin House in London.  Did you know Benjamin Franklin spent 16 years total in London?

The Benjamin Franklin House at 36 Craven Street is the only surviving residence of his (he was a boarder in the house) on either side of the Atlantic.

The Historical Experience tour blends live performance, sound, and projected imagery.  A museum as a theater.  An actress, plays the part of Polly Hewson, the landlady’s daughter who became like a second daughter to Franklin.  She takes us through the house as if Benjamin Franklin himself is there.

The Benjamin Franklin House is a Grade I listed house.  Architectural tours are available on Mondays of each week.  I'd love to go back and take this tour.

Tuesday is reserved for school tours.  I'd love to get my kid's school set up to go!
At the end, we got to see a replica of Benjamin Franklin's creation, the glass armonica.  I was able to give it a try!

Historical Experience tours run Wednesday to Sunday at 1 pm, 2 pm, 3:15 pm, and 4:15 pm.  You can book tickets at their site.

The tour is not like any I've experienced before.  It was informative and gave you a look into life in that time.

Check their events page too!  A Halloween event, even a special Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas party.

A bit of America in London that you won't want to miss!

I was invited by the Benjamin Franklin House to take their Historical Experience Tour for the purpose of a review.

  2. The historical tour is interesting. Some love it, others haven't. It is a bit weird having an actress in character with other voices going on around you and imagery on the walls. I still enjoyed it and the history and age of the house was so fascinating to me. Albeit a bit of a different type of tour, it was still worth it!
