Have you ever come upon a sight that you just thought, "I must explore that!"
On one of our treks to the coast we saw a beautiful building on a hill.
As soon as I got home I was determined to figure out what it was.
I sought out a map of the area and learned that it was the chapel for Lancing College (college has a different meaning in the UK. It's equivalent to the last two years of high school).
A few weeks ago I had the chance to go explore!
The foundations were laid in 1868 and the building complete in 1911.
The Catacombs
This was definitely worth the stop, and it was free!

Each week Bonnie, Melanie and I feature a post from the previous week. After too short of visits to the southern California coast, it's left me wanting to see more. I enjoyed seeing Rachel's photos from her 1000 Steps Beach photos. *Sigh* Take me there now, please!
Next week is the last Tuesday of the month and our themed travel prompt. Bonnie has chosen a great theme for this next week. Share three places…the place you have been that you have loved the most, the place you cannot wait to visit, and something about the place you live.

What a beautiful chapel!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! I love the chapels and cathedrals here in England! I think my favorite might be Winchester Cathedral. X
ReplyDeleteVery lovely, as is the greenery around it! As Americans we always say "college" for university... now I understand why I got a couple strange looks while in the UK ;) It's good to know your British-isms.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! The UK and Europe in general far surpass the US when it comes to architecture!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! As a Brit we sometimes take for granted our beautiful architecture!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, loveee seeing chapels when I travel overseas. There aren't nearly as many to see here. This one is beautiful (and good to know about "college" having a different meaning).
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful find! I love stumbling upon amazing places like that :)
ReplyDeleteYour pics are amazing! I especially love the one with the stained glass window. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of it but it looks great. Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteAmazing chapel for a school! Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteReally, really beautiful little chapel! And at a school?? Wow.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I often do this, too - see something that looks interesting and then Google it once I get home. I hardly ever actually go back to check it out, though!
ReplyDeleteTina, what an absolutely gorgeous place to visit! And I love when those moments hit--the Must Explore! ones :)
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to explore. And we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Only about 4 other people in the place! :)
ReplyDeleteThey all are just so amazing! Even the ones in tiny little villages! I've not been to Winchester. I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteEven these slight little differences can be confusing. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt sure is an amazing area for architecture! One of the things that draws so many Americans this way. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to go about your day and forget about the things around you. I've been guilty of that!
ReplyDeleteThey really are fascinating! Enjoy searching them out too!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to make a point to seek out places like this so there are no regrets for not having done it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that stained glass window too. I wish I could have gotten closer to it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteIt is, isn't it?! I never think of a place like this for a school chapel!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought this was a chapel to a school!! I went to a Baptist university and we didn't have anything this nice for our chapel! :P
ReplyDeleteI'm really trying to make a point to go and check out these places so there are no regrets! I have so much I want to see though!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying hard to act on them when I can!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful chapel. I am such a sucker for the architecture inside of churches... and stained glass of course. :) Lovely finding your blog through the Travel Tuesday linkup! xx Jen
ReplyDeleteHow stunning - I love your spirit of adventure too, I'm the same :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a large chapel! Love the picture of the green field and the chapel in the back against the gray skyline.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing is this!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer. No worries on the photo!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think I kinda always say "I must explore that!" but I don' get to do it every time I make that announcement. That chapel is indeed gigantic and I love every details of it.
ReplyDeleteIt can be difficult making it happen. I've been trying to do better at following through and exploring! There are so many amazing things to see in England and all over, really!
