What a special treat!!
Months ago, my friend Kristi texted to ask if I'd be interested in attending the Vienna Philharmonic's performance at the summer concert at Schönbrunn...VIP seats!!
I didn't want to let her down by passing it up! Ha!! Her hubby, Jeremy has played the trombone for them for the last 5 years. This was to be his last sommernachtskonzert as they are returning to Tennessee in August where Jeremy has taken a position at Vanderbilt University.
Part of the palace gardens.
Trying to figure out where to go!
The program
There's Jeremy!
So fun to attend a concert like this when you know one of the players!
Even though we had VIP seats, the VIP section was HUGE!!! We still needed to arrive early to get a decent seat. We were about an hour early and still were quite a bit from the stage, but closer than all these people! Ha!
There were hoards of people all the way to the palace.
I heard that somewhere around 150,000 people attended!!
The stage in daylight.
Waiting for it to start
LOVE this photo!
This is a camera on a zip line. It was so cool to watch! It sounded like a spaceship when it whizzed by! Kristi informed me that this camera was designed and created by an Austrian for this concert some years ago. Great invention!
Jeremy is right in the middle, back, directly under the middle statue.
Jeremy, left, on the jumbo screen!
Beautiful Schönbrunn palace all lit up!! Gorgeous!!
The Vienna Philharmonic does not have a conductor. They have conductors that come to play certain shows. For this concert they had Venezuelan, Gustavo Dudamel. I am not up on conductors, but I learned from Kristi that he is one of the youngest conductors. Currently 31 years old and conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
This camera angle, shot on the jumbo screem cracked me up a bit. It's one of those angles where it was so real it almost looked fake or like it was shot in front of a green screen with an image of Shönbrunn edited in. I assure you, it was a real shot! Ha!

Fireworks on the last number.
The stage was set in front of this water/statue feature. This is where we came to mingle backstage, along with the entire VIP seating. It was crowded!!
Us girls had SO much fun!!
Looks like so much fun! I thought about going, but decided against it with the huge baby bump and all. ;) Great pictures!!
ReplyDeleteIt was PACKED!! I can't take the credit for all the pictures. Most of them are from Kristi, although I think I took one of the shots with her camera. =) Two or 3 others (you can tell by the quality! =P) are from my phone.
