Things You Might Not See in America

I thought I was overwhelmed by grocery shopping in America when we returned.  I think I am equally overwhelmed at all the new things and choices available.

The fun part of shopping is the funny names and even sometimes the directions for preparation on some foods.

Roast Ox flavored chips flavoured crisps anyone?

How about some spoilt pig?

In doing some research, I think spoilt (or as we would call it in America "spoiled") pig is the name of this company's bacon.

I love our many commonalities in the English & American English language.  It's also fun to see the many differences!

I'd love to see what other expats in England have found!!  Anyone?

  1. That's so funny that you showed Spoilt Pig. That is my favorite brand here. Of course, I buy the smoked, streaky bacon...American style. I have seen many things that are unfamiliar here. Some to be honest kind of gross me out. (No offense to the locals.) One of the worst is processed "ox tongue" lunch meat. Uh, no thanks!

  2. Found you via Bloggy Moms, what an adorable blog! I was in England in 2010 on a missions trip, and all the chip flavors were an adventure :)
My husband and I always dream of going back to England, or just traveling to serve the Lord where-ever He calls us! I've subscribed via email & started following you on twitter & fb, can't wait to read more of your adventures!
My sis-in-law and I blog over at www.sophandlulu.com, she has 5 littles (3 of them adopted from Ethiopia) and I have one. Cheers!

  4. Grocery shopping here has been a blast. I have been known to walk around in a bit of a daze looking at all the different products, labels, and food. It has been so interesting! We have always grocery shopped as a family most of the time but since we have moved to the UK I prefer to go alone so that I can take my time looking at everything and figuring out what is what. The crisps were a bit of a shock with all the wild flavors. My husband and son are loving the prawn flavored crisps but I can't seem to get past the name. We are all loving the "innocent" brand of orange juice. It is pure oranges and no additives - lovely! We are also fans of the spoilt pig brand. There are truly so many differences and then so many similarities. It is fun to read about you going through the same experiences that I had.
