I see the sea!
Mollie was longing for the beach! We hunted for options and settled on Malta. I was really excited about adding a new country, but it was not meant to be. In the midst of Kristi booking our flights the tickets wouldn't go through and when she tried again they had gone up considerable. Phooey! Back to the drawing board.
Bratislava, Slovakia is only an hour away from Vienna. I began researching flight options out of their airport and ended up finding a great deal on a flight to Alghero, Italy on the island of Sardinia. We knew of Sardinia, but had never heard of Alghero. We were all up for an adventure, so we decided to go for it. Kristi researched apartments and we planned a very inexpensive little getaway!
We made a beeline for the beach!!
Alghero in the distance
It was beautiful, fine, powdery white sand. If it just weren't for all that brown seaweed (you can see it close to the water's edge). Not sure if it was left over from winter or if they get unusually high amounts of seaweed.
Old town
The cobblestone is beautiful, but it is hard on the feet!
Alghero boat harbor. Beautiful!
A night on the town.
Gorgeous walk along the seawall!
Alghero Cathedral
Us girlies at the beach!
Very unique candy store. Kristi trying out some of the selections.
Our plan was to take a boat ride out to the Neptune Caves. Wouldn't you know that the winds were too high and they cancelled the tour. Boo!
We opted for a bus ride along the coast instead. Not quite the same, as I LOVE getting out on the water, but it was nonetheless beautiful!
Being cheesy on the bus
This rock is the Isola (island) Piana on the Capo Caccia. There are caves underneath this area and lots of coral comes from this area. We all bought a corral bracelet to commemorate our time together!
It was SO much fun just getting away from it all for a few days.
There have been some stressful moments during our time in Vienna and I am so thankful to the Lord for these 2 buddies who have been incredible friends during that time and their kids have been great friends to mine as well!!
Hope you enjoyed our short trek around Alghero. It was a lot of fun and a trip I will always remember!
